When did you start working at WorldView Solutions?

2013

Just what is it that you do here?

As the Chief Operating Officer, I help ensure smooth daily operations of our teams.  I work with company leaders to set goals and reinforce our vision of being a great place to work, while serving our clients with exceptional products and services.

What recent project have you worked on where your key skills and specialties were utilized?

We have had a long-standing relationship with the Virginia DOT, and I have enjoyed being able to support many of our recent projects with them.  One of the projects that stands out is the SMART SCALE program, which I initially helped manage.  It was a tall order for both the client and our WorldView team.  In response to legislation, we were tasked to design and build a complex online system on a very tight schedule, with broad stakeholder involvement, and a high level of publicity.  Leveraging good communication, a responsive Agile approach, and a highly-committed team, we were successful.

Before working at WorldView, what was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had?

I have always loved the character of old buildings.  Years ago, I had the opportunity to apprentice as a restoration carpenter, and I worked on some rural historic properties in Southern Virginia.  I continued that work as a general contractor for several years.  I loved the nature of the job, working outdoors, and coordinating teams with a common purpose.

How did you become involved in GIS?

I first used GIS in the late 90’s, while working for the City of Richmond’s Department of Community Development.  The job focused on promoting the rehabilitation of historic properties, and I created and maintained several GIS layers that were integrated into the City’s enterprise GIS.  I also learned how to make maps, and conducted simple analyses with cadastral data.
